History of the EI 2010 conference

Dr. Eliyahu M. Goldratt, the originator of the Optimized Production Technology, the Theory of Constraints (TOC), the Thinking Processes, Drum-Buffer-Rope, Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) and other TOC derived tools, delivers his keynote address at the Y-12 New Hope Center during Entrepreneurial Imperative 2010.

Last year, the Entrepreneurial Imperative 2010 conference attracted over 300 attendees from startups, the venture capital industry, angel investor groups, small business community, nonprofit organizations, firms, and corporations supporting entrepreneurship in the region as well as the Press.

Speakers included Mayor Tom Beehan (Oak Ridge, TN), Darrel Kohlhorst (Y-12 National Security Complex), David Coffey, Dr. Alex Miller (UT), Dr. Eli Goldratt, Mayor Tim Burchett (Knox County, TN), Ray Moncrief (Meritus Ventures), Randy Boyd (CEO, PetSafe) and several others.

One of the primary differences with the conference last year was that several organizations not only had representatives on the host committee, they also hosted over nine entrepreneurial education workshops during the event.  From learning social media tips to workshops covering web-based applications for startups that save time and money, over nine workshops were hosted.

The ThrottleUp! Business Pitch competition was also held for several startup companies seeking investment capital.  Out of the six final presentations, a cash prize of $5,000 was given to Secure Waters Inc, a company that manufactures and sells the AquaSentinel, an electro-mechanical monitor/alarm system for continuous protection of source drinking waters.

The Tennessee Venture Forum also was facilitated by John Morris, a roundtable discussion and informational session for those interested learning about the regional venture capital industry.
